Adam Lallana may go back to Southampton for end of career

Liverpool have recruited very smartly since getting Jurgen Klopp as the manager. Suarez was replaced with some deft scouting by Mohamed Salah and we all know he has been more than capable of replacing the Uruguayan.

Liverpool also have recruited a large number of players from Southampton in recent years. Most will think about Sadio Mane or Virgil Van-Dijk but we are discussing one Adam Lallana here. The Midfielder was brought with much expectations from St. Mary’s five years ago.

Since his arrival, Lallana has made over 100 appearances but that is clearly not first choice numbers. Lallana has lost his place in the team to other, more capable players and the England international has found himself on the side-lines of the action as Liverpool have made back to back Champions League finals.

If you are an average player, it seems normal to accept a bit-part role in a successful team. However, Lallana is on the wrong side of 30 and in the twilight years of his career. This season, the 31 year old had a paltry 13 appearances. At a time when he needs to enjoy playing, he is on the bench.

As such he has motivation to move to a club where he is valuable and plays every week. Express has said in a report that the Liverpool midfielder has told friends he wants a move back to Southampton, where he would be loved and valued.

Liverpool paid £25 million for the midfielder and his contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2020, so Liverpool might even make some money on his sale this summer.
