Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir was to join Liverpool in the past summer. Things transpired in such a way that he could not make the switch to Anfield in the summer window.

The publicly stated reason for the failed transfer was said to be Liverpool’s unwillingness to onboard a player trouble continously by his knee. It seemed like a wise decision especially when you consider the outlay needed to bring him to Liverpool.

However, his agent Jean-Pierre Bernes who recently made a contribution to Michael Edwards charity run, reveals some new information. L’Equipe have come out with some statements of the French attacking midfielder:

“It is not about staying here(Lyon),”
“And we will know maybe the real circumstances that prevented Fekir’s move to Liverpool.

“The knee was a part of it, but not only that. He had passed a medical, done photos with the Reds shirt…”

His knee was only the foil for the real reason the transfer was delayed. Lyon will be powerless soon as his contract expires at the end of next season.
