Alan Shearer has said that he wants Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to play regular games at Anfield so that he can become a part of Gareth Southgate’s national side.
Gomez is currently one of the highly-rated young talents in the Premier League who has shown his potential since joining the Reds for £3.5million back in 2015.
Shearer said, “Hopefully Joe Gomez plays enough games for Liverpool in the centre of defence to become a regular for England there,” Shearer wrote in the Sun.
Gomez getting a chance to play at the centre back position will increase the possibility of him becoming a regular member of the national side.
The 22-year-old has six senior international caps for England so far but with a potential to play plenty more.
The defender is fast, powerful and also can play out from the back as Southgate wants.
Jurgen Klopp while speaking about Joe Gomez, said, “We all know he played a wonderful season at the centre half position until his injury, but he can play both and it’s good to have him.”
The Liverpool boss knows Gomez’s versatility to play in the defence which could prove to be an asset for the club.
However, the 22-year-old has been unable to play regular football due to several injury problems and an ankle setback which had sidelined him out for a few months.
The English international has made just 26 senior appearances across all the competitions for the club.
