Tottenham suffered heartbreak in the Champions League final as Liverpool lifted the European Cup. Even though this is the biggest Tottenham achievement- to have lost a European final, Toby Alderweireld isn’t stopping here. He has a message for everyone at the club and it’s about persistence.
The Belgian international has asked the club and players to build on from here. His message is about continuing what Mauricio Pochettino has begun at White Hart Lane. In very similar circumstances to Liverpool in last year’s Champions League, Tottenham reached the first final in their history only to be on the losing side.
Alderweireld thinks the next step should be taken soon if Tottenham are to win a trophy
There are obviously positives to take from this match and to keep on going because the team is certainly on the right track. With conviction, we can eventually go on to lift the Champions League like Liverpool have done this year.
“Of course everybody is very disappointed but we have to look at it like this: Its the next step that we have taken and now we have to keep going.”

His message is about improving season over season to eventually become good enough and win a big trophy: Tottenham have been challenging for the Premier League in recent seasons and now have a Champions League final appearance to boot.
Tottenham need to invest in the squad if they wish to sustain the kind of achievements Mauricio Pochettino has been able to clock. It is no secret the Argentine manager has got the best out of the players available to him but will need more commitment from the president in the transfer market.
To that end, Spurs have already submitted bids for Giovani Lo Celso and Ndombele. Now, let’s seal some transfers, extend Pochettino’s contract so that Alderweireld can be happy.
