Alexis Sanchez has refused to go out on loan move to Italy, despite falling out of favor under Manchester United manager Solskjaer.
AS Roma were credited with an interest in the South American star and were ready to take a gamble with him, but the player has rejected the offer to redeem his career at Stadio Olimpico, as per The Sun.
The former Barcelona forward, however, risks being relegated to the U-23s should he stay at Old Trafford as his behavior has reportedly infuriated Solskjaer.
The Norwegian boss prefers a fluid forward line of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and either of Jesse Lingard and Daniel James and is even ready to give playing time to youngsters like Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes, making the Copa America winner an irrelevant figure in the Red’s squad.
Sending the £500,000-a-week flop out on loan would have been a favorable option for the Red Devils, but the no.7 appears desperate to stay put at the Theatre of Dreams.
As per the reports, Manchester United were also ready to pay a part of the Chilean’s wages, but Sanchez’s refusal to leave could stop that from happening.
AS Roma, meanwhile, have now shifted their focus on Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi.
Alexis Sanchez was signed in a swap deal with Arsenal in January 2018, with Armenian star, Henrik Mhkitaryan going the opposite way.
The player’s career has stalled considerably since the move. He has scored only 3 Premier League goals for Manchester United in 32 appearances, averaging a goal in every 614 minutes.
