Alisson Becker refused to follow Jurgen Klopp’s order in Barca defeat

Liverpool didn’t have the best of times at Nou Camp, losing 3-0 to the magic of Messi. Luis Suarez scored the opener against his former team and then Messi piled the number up.

Liverpool will hope of a turnaround in the reverse fixture but turning around a 3 goal loss to Barca is not an easy thing to do. In the late stages of the game with the Reds already trailing by 3 goals, Barca conceded a corner kick.

As cameras panned during the match, one could see Klopp vigorously motioned for his Number 1 to join his team-mates in attacking the corner. Alisson would need to go upfield and join them in the opposition box.

If Liverpool could score even that late in the game it would give them a vital away goaol. However, it was not meant to be. Klopp couldn’t convince his goalkeeper to help out the outfield players.

Steve McManaman, a former Red on commentary duty for BT Sport noticed the incident and quickly gave his verdict on the to-and-fro between goalkeeper and manager:

“Jurgen’s pointing at Alisson to get in the box as well, and Alisson just said no to him!

“Now he’s going. He’s been told no again. Salah said no to him this time.”

It appears the goalkeeper initially ignored his manager and then reluctantly moved to the Barcelona box, and by then was sent back by Salah who stopped his corner duty before the goalkeeper could go back.

It was a rebound from Suarez’s shot that gave Barca the second goal, otherwise Liverpool stayed firmly in the tie for long periods of time.

Hopefully, we can get some goals at Anfield and see where this goes.
