Anthony Martial opens up about his relationship with Marcus Rashford

Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial, has talked about his relationship with Marcus Rashford while providing some insights on training alongside the Englishman.

Anthony Martial has made a bright start to this Premier League campaign by scoring 2 goals in as many games for the Red Devils.

The Frenchman is often criticized for his lackluster attitude on the pitch when things aren’t going well for him and the lack of consistency in his game that has hampered him to realize his full potential.

Still, the 23-year-old is one of the most talented players in world football alongside Marcus Rashford, and the forward, while preferring to operate from the middle, has no qualms in starting out wide while Rashford takes the central spot.

During an interview, the Frenchman was asked about his relationship with Rashford and does it bother him that the Englishman starts in the middle, while he has to play in the wings. Here’s what he said:

“At the training, we have this competition between us about scoring goals.

“We measure who does the best finishing and who scores the most.

“Who’s winning? Well, that depends… Sometimes it’s him, sometimes it’s me. In games, Marcus likes to play in the middle, like me. I don’t mind dropping off, dropping out, we interchange during games.

“It doesn’t bother me to let him take the lead occasionally. It helps us to terrorize opposition defenses and I hope we can keep it up over the course of the season.”

While Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, both prefer to be the no. 9, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s system offers both of them the opportunity to interchange positions during the course of the game.

Like Martial said, this fluidity up front helps the duo to take on the opposition defenders and score goals on a consistent basis.

Manchester United only have Marcus Rashford and a 17-year-old Mason Greenwood for the No.9 spot after the departure of Romelu Lukaku and possibly Alexis Sanchez.

Rest assured, Martial will have plenty of opportunities over the course of the season to start as a proper no.9 himself!
