Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger will miss the rest of the campaign after he underwent surgery on his already injured knee yesterday.
Rudiger who picked up the injury in a rather innocuous coming together with Sadio Mane against Liverpool took a strong knock on the same in the 65th minute of his comeback game and had to be withdrawn.
The German will miss Chelsea’s two final league games at home to Watford and then away to Leicester City as well as the two-legged Europa League semifinals tie and a potential final if Chelsea gets past Eintracht Frankfurt.
“Toni Rudiger successfully underwent surgery on his left knee meniscus today. He will miss the rest of this campaign and will rehab over the summer to be back early next season,” Chelsea said in a statement on their website.
“What a pity I won’t be able to help my team during the last games of the season. But my knee surgery went well and I’m already positive again,” Rudiger wrote on Instagram.

Andreas Christensen is expected is to partner David Luiz at the heart of Chelsea’s defence in Rudiger’s absence.
