Arsenal’s hopes for landing the Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico have been blown away as he has decided to stay at Ajax for another season of Champions League.
The 26-year-old has played a crucial role in his club’s surprise venture in the Champions League and also featured in the 1-0 win over Tottenham.
Arsenals hopes get a blow as Tagliafico decides to stay Ajax till next season.
In recent weeks, Tagliafico had been reported as a target for the Gunners who are looking to consolidate their defence which has been frail this season after a series of losses in the domestic season.
However, now, the North London outfit will have to set their sights somewhere else as the centre back has expressed his stay till next season.
Meanwhile, Tagliaficao’s decision to stick at Ajax has been applauded by the leading clubs in Amsterdam with the director of football affairs Marc Overmars telling the club’s official website: “This is great news for Ajax and a good signal to the group.
He has scored six goals and eight assists for the Dutch club this season and keeping them in the hunt for the domestic and Champions League.
