Unai Emery is interested in signing Paris- Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer, according to reports in French media.
The 24-year-old midfielder is set to leave PSG on a free transfer in the summer transfer window after being unable to perform at Parc des Princes.
However, it will not be an easy task for Emery to land the Frenchmen at the Emirates as the Gunners will face fierce competition from Manchester United and Tottenham for the talented midfielder’s signature.
Further, Arsenal could face difficulties to allure Rabiot to North London without securing a Champions League spot for the next term.
The Gunners had a disastrous end to their Premier League season this season as they finished in the fifth place with 70 points and 28 points behind the champions Manchester City.
Rabiot joined PSG in 2012, and since then he was always expected to be the central force of PSG’s midfield for years to come. But there has been a decline in his form in the past couple of years and in spite of being one of the best players in the French side; he has appeared only six times for the national team.
In other Arsenal news, the North London outfit is in contact with Leicester over the signing of playmaker James Maddison, according to reports from the Daily Mail, as Spurs are also in the chase for the England midfielder.
The 22-year old had an awe-inspiring debut season in the Premier League for the Foxes, having scored seven goals and contributing in seven assists.
After losing to Chelsea in the finals of Europa League, calls for a squad overhaul has got intensified.
Gunners interest for Maddison comes in the same week as Mauricio Pochettino has also been reported to have contacted Leicester for the signature of the 22-year-old.
Cascarino, the former Ireland striker, says the perfect replacement already plays in the Premier League.
“I look at [James] Maddison and I think, ‘Arsenal is your team’,” Cascarino wrote in his Times column.
“There are not many great No 10s in world football, but Arsenal desperately need someone who plays like the Leicester City man.
Maddison joined Leicester City last summer from Norwich has been one of the outstanding players this season.
He has scored seven goals and has been tipped to make his first appearance for the national side over the coming months.
