Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann is set to sign for Barcelona in the summer transfer window, according to the latest reports.
The Frenchman has already made it crystal clear that he won’t be at Wanda Metropolitano at the start of the next season, with lots of possible destinations being rumoured.
The 28-year-old has been a superstar at Atletico Madrid for the last 5 seasons and was almost set to sign a contract with Barcelona last season before the move fell through.
Now, with Manchester United interested in bringing a Striker at the Old Trafford after Romelu Lukaku’s potential goodbye, Griezmann was reportedly the man at the top of the Woodward’s list.
Yesterday, the world cup-winner admitted that he could leave Spain after 10 years in the country, thus giving hope to the Red Devils fans amidst Barcelona links:
“There’s a need for patience, as it’s still soon,” Griezmann said.
“I want my future to be decided more than anyone, but there’s a need to wait.
“I don’t know if I’ll remain in Spain. Maybe in two weeks we’ll know something.
“I just want to play football and have fun.”
However, according to Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin, Antoine Griezmann has already signed for Barcelona:
“It’s crystal clear where he is going to play, I’ve known since March. At Barcelona,” he told Spanish television station Movistar Toros on Wednesday.
So, the absence of Champions League football comes back to haunt us again.
Moreover, United doesn’t have a legendary figure at the Old Trafford anymore that has the pulling power to sign big name players.
We are still one of the biggest clubs in World Football, no doubt.
But, with Ed Woodward in-charge of the transfer business, we should get used to these kinds of outcomes.
Unless, of course, we are ready to pay half-a-million pounds of wages like we did with Alexis Sanchez. Thanks Ed!
