Barcelona had recently inquired about the availability of Victor Lindelof from Manchester United, according to the reports.
The Catalan club went all in for Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt in a hope to persuade him on a move to the Nou Camp, however, the 19-year-old rejected them (and us!) for Cristiano Ronaldo and Turin.
So, Barcelona, apparently decided, to hell with de Ligt, let’s go on and get Victor Lindelof as the possible option B for the Dutch defender, because why not! Now, this is where it gets good.
While, I’ve been very critical of Manchester United’s transfer policy for the last few years, I completely and wholeheartedly agree to what our club responded to Barcelona on this one:
‘No thanks’ is what Mundo claim United told Barcelona when they inquired about Lindelof’s availability, as per express
While, I would’ve gone with the traditional “you must be f**king kidding me” reply, I guess “No thanks” works too. At least, it clearly sent the message to Messi and co.
For all the problems we have been facing in our defense, Victor Lindelof has been our best player in the back four last season.
Letting go of him while the likes of Smalling, Jones and Young sign new contracts would have been catastrophic to say the least. Thankfully, we were better than that.
Meanwhile, the Swede is looking forward to the pre-season:
“Pre-season is very important for the team,“ said Lindelof. “New players come in and meet the group and I think it’s vital, especially this season, that we’re altogether in the beginning and work through things we want to do and the things we want to improve, so yeah I would say pre-season is very important.
“When I had just signed for the club, it was important for me to meet and bond with all the players and staff, see what kind of personalities there are and see how the club worked. I really enjoyed it.”
