CHELSEA teenage superstar Callum Hudson-Odoi is in ‘an absolutely perfect position’ at Chelsea to demand a massive contract according to former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon.
“He’s in an absolutely perfect position as far as a young man trying to learn his trade, trying to make his way [goes],” he told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast.
“He’s at a brilliant football club, he’s started to play, big clubs are after him, his contract’s running towards the end – he could not be in a better position.
“And hopefully this injury isn’t long-term and he’s now in a position where he can get fit pretty quick.”
He continued: “I was talking about it to Joe Cole and Ian Wright when we went away with England, about Hudson-Odoi, ‘cos obviously he played for England and he was brilliant and he hadn’t started a Premier League game.
“We were thinking his contract’s coming to an end, he hasn’t started a Premier League game, we were saying that him and his agent are probably going into the room with the Chelsea hierarchy and saying ‘starting off at about £120,000-a-week.’
“And he’s a kid whose not started a Premier League game, this was going back a few weeks. He has now. It’s an unbelievable situation that any young man finds himself in.
“Now he’s got an injury, it might just change it if it’s a long-term injury, hopefully not, then that puts a different perspective on it because Chelsea can’t afford to let him go.
“If Hazard goes, they can’t afford to let him go. They’re gonna need him.”
