After all the reports claiming Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United is a done deal, it feels a bit awkward to say now that the transfer seems to be in some serious jeopardy. The recent report comes to us via ESPN.
The latest report is that Sporting are not budging from their asking price of €65 million upfront and another €15m in add-ons for Fernandes. It’s bizarre because the Portuguese team were ready to let go of Fernandes to Tottenham in the summer for just around €45m plus add-ons. Manchester United have all the right to be baffled.
As reported by Sky Sports last week, Fernandes wants a move to Old Trafford however the deal is not happening unless Sporting lower their valuation. Manchester United would only sign the player if the price is right, or they would wait for the summer transfer window to reopen when there will be more players available in the market.
Sporting had hoped to include Marcos Rojo in any agreement but the Argentinian is not keen to return to his former club.
Asked on Friday whether the Lisbon derby had been Fernandes’ last game, Sporting manager Silas said: “I hope not. So far we don’t know and neither does Bruno.
We will try to keep him for more games, but it is not up to us.
“We understand the ambition of the player, who prefers to play in a league superior to ours. There has been talk about the English league, but who wouldn’t like to play there? Bruno deserves everything.”
Manchester United face Liverpool in the English Premier League tonight.
