20 year olds are rarely starting XI players at a club perennially challenging for competitions like the Champions League. Let alone playing back to back Champions League finals.
Bobby Adekanye came through the ranks at the famed Ajax academy and moved to another famed academy at La Masia. Barcelona loaned him around but he was not offered a professional contract and so the Netherlands citizen got himself a transfer to Liverpool in 2015. For the past four years he has been a recognized figure at the Kirkby academy but breaking into the first team hasn’t been possible.

The problem is that Bobby Adekanye is a right winger who can play across the front line. While Liverpool have been able to give breaks to the likes of Joe Gomez in the defence, the same hasn’t been possible in the front three. Either because the level is so high with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Firmino or because there are better options knocking at the doors like Divock Origi.
Regardless, it has been known for some time now that the winger will leave Liverpool this summer as his contract runs out this summer. There has been no indication from Liverpool about a serious intent to keep the Dutchman at Anfield. Neither does the player want to stay as a back-up or prospect, which is what he is according to his current ability.
Now, he has sent a message of goodbye to the people at Anfield, be it the players and staff or the fans. Here’s what Adekanye posted on a social network recently:
“Four years ago when I arrived at Liverpool I was still a child. Now I leave as a man and I take with me a new family which I’ll feel is mine forever.”

He had already declared in march about his intention to leave once the contract expired. This is just further confirmation of the same. Italian club Lazio are said to be his next destination with even rumours of a pre-contract circulating around. All the best lad!
