Manchester United have submitted a latest bid worth £7million for Stoke City Defender Nathan Collins, according to the latest reports.
We had already covered in our previous report that Manchester United were interested in the transfer of Nathan Collins after Darren Fletcher recommended him to us.
Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher left Stoke City at the end of this season. As per reports, the 35-year-old was heavily impressed with the performances of the young 18-year-old Centre-Back Nathan Collins during his time at the Bet365 Stadium.
The Irish youngster broke into the Stoke City’s first team at the end of the last campaign, making 3 appearances during the back end of the season.
Arriving from Dublin-based outfit Cherry Orchard in 2017, the 6 ft 4 inch Defender has been one of the most impressive youngster at Stoke City.
Manchester United are in the need of a centre-back who can alongside Victor Lindelof next season. The likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are not the answer while Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly could be on their way out this summer.
Still only 18, Nathan Collins is not experienced enough to slot into our squad next season. The Irishman will probably head out on loan, preferably to a Championship side to gain the required experience.
Ole has already made it clear with the following quotes that United are looking to build a team around young and upcoming talents instead of the finished products:
‘You have to have that value system and a certain kind of attitude about you to make a Man United player.
‘We want to see defenders who defend like they’re doing it for their lives – that’s the most important thing.
‘You have to have that work ethic and we’re scouting the market, trying to find the right ones.’
Nathan Collins fits that bill and hopefully could be one of the stars of the future.
