Craig Burley: “Griezmann should join Liverpool over Barcelona and United”

Antoine Griezmann has been an Atletico Madrid player since 2014. The France international has made 69 appearances for the national team and has scored more than a hundred goals for the Spanish club in the last five years.

In each of those five years, he has been a hot property on the transfer market. Winning the World Cup with France only served to enhance his reputation as well as price. However, manager Diego Simeone was able to keep him at the Wanda Metropolitano despite an ever growing interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester United and any other club that could afford the Center-Forward.

Last summer, Griezmann announced in a bizzare video that he is set to stay at the Spanish club for the time being. His personal terms with Diego Simeone have been instrumental in keeping him put. Now, at 28 years of age he feels the time is right for a move away from the Spanish capital.

Liverpool would benefit immensely from Griezmann's arrival
Craig Burley thinks Liverpool will do a great job if he moves Liverpool

Being an Atletico player and a self-professed fan he is set to snub any interest from cross town rivals Real Madrid. He would be demonised in much the same way Courtois has been since his move to the Bernabeu. That leaves Barcelona in pole position to land him, followed closely by the likes of Man United, PSG and perhaps even Liverpool.

Craig Burley, ESPN pundit was speaking after Griezmann posted his latest video a few hours ago declaring his intention to finally leave Atletico Madrid for pastures new. The former Chelsea man has advised Griezmann to pick a move to Liverpool over Man United and Barcelona:

“Liverpool are very much a team on the up at the moment and he could aid Roberto Firmino who also likes to drop deep.

“Liverpool are a huge club who are fighting for league titles with Manchester City and have reached the last two Champions League finals.

Burley goes on to explain that Griezmann would work great in the Liverpool attack and will be better served at Anfield than the likes of United, who have a big rebuilding job ahead.

Griezmann’s contract contains a clause for release at £108 million before June 30. Should Liverpool trigger it?
