Manchester United are “reportedly” set to offer a new short term deal to out of favour Matteo Darmian in the summer transfer window.
Matteo Darmian joined Manchester United from Serie A side Torino back in 2015 for £12.7m. The Italian was a regular feature under Louis Van Gaal but moved down the pecking order during the Mourinho reign.
Now, after the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the 29-year-old, whose deal expires in the summer, has seen just 1 minute of Premier League action since late December.
With the emergence of Diogo Dalot, the resurgence of Luke Shaw and Ashley Young good enough to play the backup role in both the positions, it makes little to no sense to offer Darmian a new contract at the Old Trafford.
Wouldn’t it be better if we could promote one of our academy products for the backup role or maybe sign someone of better quality instead of Darmian?
What is your take on this? Does Matteo Darmian deserve a new contract at Manchester United in the summer?
