Emergency signing Odion Ighalo gets mixed reactions from Man Utd fans

Manchester United confirmed signing Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua on Friday and the striker has thus created history by becoming the first Nigerian to play for the club.

Man Utd fans have a mixed feeling about it though. It seems likely that the Red Devils signed Ighalo in a last-ditch attempt to get reinforcement for injured Marcus Rashford as they were not able to sign any of their primary striking options.

England is not new for the Nigerian international though as he previously spent two-and-a-half-years at Watford before moving to Asia.

The player would be making his Premier League return after three years in China and will be working hard to bring Manchester United in contention for the Champions League. It’s not going to be easy though.

United announced the signing of the former Nigeria international on transfer deadline day, following the long-term injury sustained by Marcus Rashford which could rule the forward out of action for three months.

Following the loan move, United fans took to Twitter to express their feelings:

  1. Give the lad a chance, lots of other clubs went in for him. watch his highlight on line. he looks good, quick plays from deep or on the line. and he runs more than Martial so best of luck to him.
