Liverpool will play Tottenham in the final on June 1. The Champions League final is special because both the teams are English. For Eriksen, it can be more special because it is not Manchester City we play in the final. Logically, you can’t play the losing quarter-finalist in the final again but that is just the kind of nightmare Christian Eriksen is scared of.
In a pre-match interview with the BBC, Eriksen has been talking about the final and the journey to the final. Where Tottenham have thrice averted disaster this season: the group stages, the quarter-final (against City) and the semi-final against Ajax.
Before we talk of nightmares, we must tell you that Eriksen and his friends dream of standing with the Champions League trophy. All that remains is the final on Saturday.
Tottenham are yet to win their first trophy with Mauricio Pochettino, having lost the league final a couple of years ago. Now, Spurs find themselves in the biggest night of European football against familiar foes.
Tottenham players relieved they don’t have to play Man City again
“I’m just happy it wasn’t City, I think we’ve played City enough this year!”

When asked about the final, the first thing Eriksen let out was his relief that Tottenham is not playing Manchester City once again in the final. There were three fixtures in April itself involving the two teams. A league game sandwiched in between the UEFA Champions League quarter-final. The Champions League match is the only fixture that Spurs won.
Here’s all the big teams Spurs beat to make it to the Champions League final of Madrid:
Borrusia Dortmund, Manchester City, Ajax Amsterdam.
