Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland might not be ready yet for Manchester United says club chief Christoph Freund and believes it might be “too soon” for the player.
After joining Salzburg in January, Haaland has since enjoyed a great campaign. The 19-year-old appeared just five times for Salzburg in the second half of last season, scoring once.
Haaland was one of the breakout players during the Under-20 World Cup in which he won a golden boot thanks to a record nine-goal haul against Honduras.
Erling Haaland has already scored 28 times in just 22 matches for his club this season, eight out of which has been scored during the six Champions League group games. The performance has been enough to draw attention from Europe’s biggest clubs as they have started to circle the 6ft 4in forward, including United.
Haaland is understood to have already visited the facilities of clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga, while Juventus – who have a close relationship with his agent, Mino Raiola – are also keen.
But speaking to Mirror Football this week, sporting director Freund warned Haaland against departing in January, insisting:
It’s too fast for Erling.
Erling has only been here five months in the team, sure he’s outstanding… but, it’s football.
Freund takes great pride in Salzburg’s position as a talent factory for Europe’s elite.
