ESPN: Tottenham star is ‘100 per cent leaving’ for Real Madrid

ESPN pundit Steve Nicol has predicted that Toby Alderweireld would be choosing Real Madrid over a new contract at Tottenham at the end of the season.

Toby Alderweireld has a release clause of only £25m, which is very low considering the quality player he is. With only a year left in his contract, it’s highly unlikely that Spurs would be able to keep him at the new White Hart Lane.

Real Madrid centre back Varane, 25, is said to be leaving this summer and thus the Spanish giants are desperately looking for a player of similar class as his replacement.

“100 per cent [Alderweireld’s] leaving,” he told ESPN FC.

“But the question is where’s he gonna go?

“And I think if we look across the board at Varane leaving Real Madrid, I would not be shocked to see Alderweireld at Real Madrid.”

Toby Alderweireld recently confessed that he is unsure about his future at Spurs and would like to consider few options.

“There’s a lot to play for this season. And in the end I have a year contract left at Spurs, so I don’t look further than this season,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Other things I don’t know. I am very happy at Spurs, so we will see what the future brings.

“So as I said, I am very happy and I just try to watch game-by-game.

“This season there is a lot to play for so I will give my best for that.”
