Reports linking Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United have taken a new twist with TalkSport.com claiming that Sporting have already rejected one player-plus-cash bid from United, and the Red Devils are now forced to prepare a new all-cash deal.
Good news is that the new offer will reportedly be around a total of £65million, which is very close to what the Portuguese club wanted for the player. £50m of which will be paid upfront in cash and the rest of it in add-ons at a later date.
No matter how you look at it, the transfer seems to be happening. Manchester United fans have always wanted the club to sign a midfielder of Fernandes’ calibre and with the latest rumours suggesting a deal is truly on the cards, it’s definitely time to get all hyped up.
But what exactly will the 25-year-old bring to Old Trafford should he be a Red Devil by the end of the month?
European football expert Andy Brassell gave talkSPORT the low-down on Bruno Fernandes.
Sporting are still hoping to get the thick end of €70m (£60m) for Bruno Fernandes, and I can understand why,” Brassell told the Trans Europe Express.
“He is a player who has been outstanding last season and this; 31 goals from midfield last season and 17 in 21 so far this term, in not a great Sporting team.
“I will allow myself a little Bryan Robson comparison with the way he charges late into the penalty area, but with greater frequency.
“But with him, the thing is he’s not an all-Portugal product. When he was a teenager he went to Serie A, and it has made him very good tactically and very good on the ball.
“It is clear to anyone who watches Man United on a semi-regular basis that where they need to improve is midfield; they need that presence, that technique, that will to get in the box…
“And he’s got all of those.
“Clearly he is going to need other players to play with, but he is someone who I feel pretty confident could make a fairly instant impact at Manchester United.”
