Search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement at Manchester United is reportedly on and England manager Gareth Southgate is said to be leading the race. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given a deadline till the end of the season to turn things around at the Old Trafford and if not, Manchester United will be looking for better alternatives.
Ole still has the confidence and backing of the top echelons at Manchester United and he might be given another transfer window to turn things around.
He is nevertheless under intense scrutiny ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash away to Tranmere Rovers, having overseen just two wins from United’s last seven games in all competitions.
Daily Mail have reported that he could be sacked this summer if results don’t improve – with Southgate being viewed as a leading contender to take over after England’s Euro 2020 adventure.
Mauricio Pochettino will be the favourite for the job should Solskjaer be relieved of his duties – but the Mail claims Southgate is also high in United’s thinking and is seen as the ideal manager to continue the club’s policy of developing young talent.
He is a regular visitor to United’s training ground as part of his duties as England boss, and is said to be impressed in turn by United’s work with young players.
Solskjaer takes his United side to Prenton Park for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tranmere, and will be well aware that winning silverware this season could go some way towards extending his spell as manager.
