Gary Lineker, former Barcelona and Tottenham striker and now a pundit has revealed his thoughts on the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham. The final is to be played in Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano on June 1.
In a somewhat shocking statement to Tottenham fans, Lineker has said that Liverpool will come out on top of his former team. Both the teams had similar hurdles in reaching the final. Liverpool really had to face a top class team, while Tottenham made hard work of Ajax.
Lineker thinks his former team were too off-the-pace for being compared to Liverpool. Almost adrift by a good 20 points from Liverpool, Tottenham don’t compare to Liverpool pound for pound. He also thinks this is the time for Tottenham to shake off their bottlers tag and feature in more European finals.
“They finished 20-odd points ahead of Tottenham this season so it’s hard to make a case where Tottenham are favourites.”

Liverpool are in the second final in a row and after the injustice of Kiev would want to win it this time over. They say familiariity breeds contempt and Liverpool-Tottenham know each other well. So, Liverpool need to be careful as they can’t be too comfortable in the Champions League final playing against Tottenham.
Liverpool beat Barcelona in the semi-final while Tottenham came from behind against Ajax Amsterdam. This is the first all English final since the 2008 final in Moscow between Manchester United and Chelsea.
