Gary Neville is a Manchester United legend and multiple times Premier League winner with the Red Devils. These days the former defender works as a pundit and has to give his views about everything from the FA Cup and the Premier League.
25 year-old Andrew Robertson isn’t exactly young by any means but his adaptation at the top level of the game has been immense. Klopp has already praised the Scot several times during his press-conferences.
He also has 34 Premier League appearances this season and 10 in the Champions League. The left-back has also been very productive in the opposition’s box, delivering 11 assists so far.
Hence, Gary Neville has every right to praise the full-back for his contribution and improvement and that is exactly what he has done in the wake of the 3-0 loss against Barcelona. Even though the team ended with a clear loss, the game was more in the favour of Liverpool than the scoreline lets out.
But the praise from the former Manchester United man isn’t solely for the assists he provides or the impact in attack he can make. It is for filling the gaps in his defensive duties:
“Robertson has become a brilliant full-back,”
“I have to say, defensively with England, we actually exploited him up at Celtic Park.
“We said: ‘Make runs inside him, he’ll be good going forward, but defensively you’ll catch him.’ What he’s done at Liverpool has shocked me in terms of his defensive work.”
Here Neville refers to the times he was England assistant manager. Yeah Gary, you won’t like him either up the field or down it when he plays United!
