In the past couple of days we have already covered Tottnham’s ongoing attempts at signing Argentine Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis. BBC has said the player will set Spurs back more than the £53 million they bid for him.
Any fee in excess of the above amount is sure to a Tottenham record transfer fee. Spurs submitting the bid even before the window opens shows that they are serious about bringing the central midfielder to White Hart Lane.
Since then, social media is abuzz with Lo Celso reports and the latest one is about his message to Spurs own Erik Lamela. Both the players represent Argentina, so there’s already common ground. Lamela was out on the internet talking about getting ready for the Champions League final and Lo Celso dropped in, just like that.
Giovani posted an appreciative comment on Lamela’s post talking about getting ready for the final. Here’s the post and comment in question:

It can be that the player is merely encouraging his compatriot but the timing of his comment puts everything in a different light. Spurs have not signed a player since the arrival of Lucas Moura from PSG in January 2018. The squad may have reached the Champions League final but it’s certainly in need of considerable investment.
The entire objective of signing Lo Celso seems to be replacing Christian Eriksen, with the Dane linked away from the club for several months now.
