Ilkay Gundogan is a player who played for Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. Together they won the German domestic double in 2011-12. Before the match at Anfield, Gundogan was interviewed by Germany DAZN, and he made a prediction about it.
Liverpool have tried tooth and nail to keep in touch with Manchester City this season but it seems unlikely that Man City will give up on the league, especially now that they don’t have the distraction of Champions League football.
However, it is an entirely different story in the Champions League after Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg to advance to their second consecutive European final. While last season they lost to Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos, this time it will be either Tottenham or Ajax.
It seems Gundogan had an idea about Klopp’s ability as a manager and motivator. He even got the prediction right to exact scoreline. When Barcelona were beaten 4-0 at Anfield, Gundogan would have been all-smug telling someone: “I told you so”.
Here’s what he said to DAZN in his German interview:
“I’ve already thought about it and somehow I have the feeling that it’s not over yet,”
“I can even imagine Liverpool winning the game 4-0 at home. I don’t know why, but I think that at Anfield, and Klopp as a motivational machine and with the types of players that are very unpleasant to play against, even a team like Barca can be completely shut down in one game.”

We can’t say what the Man City fans think but Gundogan will certainly be a man I’d lend an ear to if he is talking before the final. You think he was right or just darn lucky?
