Tottenham were hot on the heels of Lyon as they secured the signing of Tanguy NDombele’s replacement from Brazilian club Flamengo. Within a day of Lyon confirming Jean Lucas’ signing, Tottenham are proceeding in the fast lane to a medical and transfer for NDombele. The 22 year old is expected to complete the transfer within the current week. It didn’t happen without effort from manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino convinced Tanguy NDombele to move to London
Pochettino was in contact with NDombele in the last few days as the deal picked up pace. The Tottenham boss has told the French midfielder the reason why he wants NDombele in London: to win a trophy with Spurs as soon as next season. All of this comes from the French Media.
The report goes on to claim that the manager revealed his intentions to NDombele in London. The player arrived secretly to hold a meeting with his future manager and to get clarity on the role he was being offered at the club. He arrived after playing for France on international duty. The promise that did it for NDombele was Pochettino’s desire to win the league next season.
The most expensive transfer in Spurs history
Mauricio Pochettino may have convinced the player but it was still upto Daniel Levy to agree a fee with his club. For once, Daniel Levy seems to have braced up and paid what it takes to get the player Mauricio Pochettino wants. The club will purchase NDombele for £65 million.
Whichever way you look at it, it’s not a small price to pay for a 22 year old. But Pochettino’s belief in the players is strong and there’s mutual understanding now between Levy and Poch as to how the club needs to operate in the transfer market. So here we are on the cusp of witnessing a new Tottenham, spending on par with the likes of Chelsea and more than Arsenal.
