Barring Scott McTominay, Victor Lindelof and maybe Luke Shaw, most of the Manchester United players had an underwhelming (if not terrible) season.
The likes of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial were in limelight mostly for the controversial reasons, David De Gea looked like our very own Loris Karius while Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard failed to live up to their potential.
Honestly, the best thing about this campaign was that it’s over now and the players and management staff can take a step back and analyze what went wrong.
Manchester United fans had big expectations from Jesse Lingard who had an impressive campaign last season, but the 26-year-old managed to score only 4 goals while providing just a couple of assists in the whole of the Premier League.
With the season now over and the players off to their holidays, Lingard took to the Twitter to apologize to the Man United fans and promised to comeback strong next season:
“Never say die! We continue fighting through the ups and downs no matter what, thank you for everyone’s support this season I know it’s been tough and I’m sorry but we go again and we rebuild.”

There were obviously big expectations from the England international. This could have been the season Lingard established himself as an important player in the Manchester United starting 11, however, that hasn’t quite happened.
Jesse Lingard will probably survive the summer clear out at the Old Trafford but next season should be the last opportunity for him to step up to the plate or else…
