Manchester United Star Juan Mata is set to sign a new contract extension at the Old Trafford after an improved offer from the Red Devils.
Juan Mata’s current contract at Manchester United runs down in July of this year. There were talks that the Spaniard would love to stay with us but he might be shown the door, thanks to Ole’s summer clearout.
In April Mata’s father had admitted that United have offered a new contract to his son, but the future of his son wasn’t resolved yet:
“Manchester [United] have offered to renew [Juan’s contract].
“We are very happy, but there are proposals from Champions League clubs, maybe from Spain.
“But today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.”
However, if the latest reports are to believed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to keep the Spaniard at the Old Trafford by offering him an extension.
There was already a contract offer on the table for the 31-year-old but Ed Woodward has decided to come back with an improved offer in the hope that the Spaniard would agree to an extension.
With the future of big players like Paul Pogba, David De Gea and Romelu Lukaku still in doubt, Solskjaer wants to utilize the experience of Juan Mata in the locker room.
The Norwegian considers Mata as the model professional and wants to keep him as an example for the young and upcoming talent that Ole and Ed Woodwards are set to bring in the summer transfer window.
Juan may not be the same world-class player he used to be in his younger days, but the Spaniard still has the talent, vision and creativity to deliver magic, if used wisely in a suitable system.
Do you think we should extend Juan Mata’s contract?
