Liverpool have a lot on their plate right now. First there’s the match at St. James’ Park against Benitez’s team. It will shortly be followed by Barca’s Anfield visit, where Liverpool trail 3-0 from the first leg.
The second leg is expected to be different, mostly because it is at Anfield. It is hard to imagine that Liverpool could have played much better. It was really Messi who dragged Barca over and above the entire Liverpool squad playing on the day.
Martin Keown, former Arsenal player and football pundit has expressed that in the other battle for the Premier League, the Reds are at a certain disadvantage. He blames the fixtures of the last two games for the problem facing Liverpool.
Liverpool play Newcastle United away today. Manchester City do not play their game against Manchester City until two days later. Giving them extra time to prepare and execute depending on how the Liverpool game pans out. Both in terms of fitness and tactics it gives an edge to Pep Guardiola’s side.
“It does not feel right that the two teams battling for the title are not playing their penultimate matches on the same day,”
“City have two days longer to rest this weekend and will know exactly what they have to do against Leicester on Monday.

In the last few games, it is vital that Liverpool pick up points before hoping for a slip from Manchester City. The key is to not slip before City do. It’s a game of who blinks first, if you will!
