Liverpool had been sweating over the fitness of colossus center-back Virgil Van Dijk. The Dutchman had contracted an injury thanks to Mousa Sissokho colliding with him in the last few minutes of the game.
In case Van Dijk missed the trip to Southampton, which happens to be his former home, Liverpool would be in a pickle. They are already nursing Joe Gomez back from a fractured leg.
Although Saints are not the bespoke big club, facing them is a tricky proposition. So when Klopp declares in his pre-match press conference that Van Dijk will be available for the Saints game, it comes as a major relief.
“Yes, it looks quite good,”
“No major concerns, actually, so we have to see until the matchday obviously but after the (last) game probably thinking about Virgil. He trained normal, everything OK.
“Yesterday we only had a second recovery session but he was involved in that and I heard nothing different that he could maybe not train today. No, it looks all OK.”
