Liverpool had their hands all over the Premier League trophy even though Man City eventually won it on the final day by a single point. The gap between the teams isn’t all that much but is still considerable over the course of the season.
The fact that City can flout all Financial Fair Play regulations to sign any number of players at any price makes it even harder to compete. As such, reinforcements despite a probable European triumph are expected at Liverpool. One area that Liverpool are actively looking to bolster is the attack.
The other such area where Liverpool want more talent and durability is the defence. Virgil Van-Dijk alongside Joe Gomez seems like a backline good enough to face any opponents. Joel Matip has also shown this season that he can deputize well in either’s absence.
However a world class center-back who is on the same wavelength as Van-Dijk would go a long way in securing our long-term durability. It is for this reason that links with Matthijs De Ligt are being talked about all around. Liverpool will face the toughest competition for the Dutchman from Barcelona and Juventus.
The Catalans have already snapped up Frenkie De Jong, De Ligt’s teammate. They might be in talks for the defender ass well. So Liverpool will need to pay the price that Ajax demand, since De Ligt is a commodity in rare supply.
Should Liverpool go on to spend around £75 million on a 19 year old? Let us know.
