Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been urged to sell Simon Mignolet and replace him with Neil Etheridge of Cardiff City.
As per the reports, Reds are yet to make an approach for him but Liverpool had made an initial inquiry about the goalkeeper’s availability this summer.
Alisson played a key role in the Merseyside outfit in this campaign, keeping 27 clean sheets across the Premier League and Champions League and conceding only 31 times in 51 games on the roads to their European glory and in a second-place finish in the league.
This season the Belgian has only appeared in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup as Liverpool were eliminated in the third round of both the competitions.
And Liverpool legend Steve Nicol feels that Jurgen Klopp should sign Filipino shot-stopper Etheridge.
Nicol told ESPN FC:
“I think this would be a good signing. I think the 69 goals he [Etheridge] let in, he probably had no chance with 55 of them, let’s be honest.
“Mignolet has to go, he has to go and play. You need a back-up who is going to be happy to be there but who is of a certain level that whenever something may happen to Alisson, you’re going to put Etheridge in and he’s going to do a great job.
“He’s going to be professional. He’s not going to be pulling off spectacular saves but you know what you’re getting. He’s decent with his feet, he does all the basics right, according to Express
The 24-year-old’s current contract with the Cardiff City runs until the summer of 2021.
Neil Etheridge has surely impressed the Liverpool boss with a series of smart saves and it would be interesting to see him in Red’s jersey in the next season.
