Liverpool is looking for a new goalkeeper to replace Simon Mignolet as Alisson’s back-up.
Mignolet is set to leave the Anfield at the end of the season after struggling to break through the first team since the arrival of their Brazilian goalkeeper.
If the Belgian international leaves this summer, Cakir could be the ideal replacement for the Merseyside.
The 23-year-old Turkish goalkeeper Cakir had an incredible season for the Turkish club Trabzonspor and has caught the eye of several European clubs.
According to the agent of young Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, the Reds are tapping at his client to fill the role.
Cakir’s agent Erdi Kirkpinar says he has been in contact with Liverpool over a potential deal.
Speaking to Turkish media outlet Ajansspor, he said: “Every team have scouts, and some of them are following Ugurcan’s matches. Schalke haven’t made an official offer for him.
“I know Lille and Schalke are following him. Liverpool is also interested in him. Liverpool officials have talked with us, we had some contacts, but no official offer has come from them”.
Cakir has been one of the top goalkeepers in the Turkish Super League and recently got a call-up to the Turkey national side.
He has conceded only 20 goals in 18 appearances for the club this season and keeping five clean sheets.
Cakir has made three appearances for the Turkish U-19 team, two for the U-17 team and one appearance for the U_21 team.
His current contract with the Turkish club runs until 2021.
