Liverpool will be going to Madrid to play the Champions League final against Tottenham. The match will be hosted at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano.

The stadium is in Madrid and not far from their Phillipe Coutinho will certainly be ruing over what could have been. He paid his own money to get away from Liverpool to Barcelona. Now after almost 17 months, he is an outcast that even Barcelona do not want.

The various clauses in Coutinho's transfer to Barcelona
Phillipe Coutinho moved to Barcelona in a lucrative deal for Liverpool

News in the Daily Mail today is giving Liverpool fans more cause for concern as the various clauses that would fetch Liverpool money from Barca may never be triggered. We are not talking about the Champions League clauses here. They were already reported a couple of days ago, resulting in a loss of £4.6 million due to Barcelona’s elimination.

In Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona, the negotiations led to a payment of £106 million upfront. The remainder of his £142 million was to be paid through performance and appearance related bonuses.

Liverpool were due £17 million pounds when Coutinho completes 100 appearances for Barcelona. If Barcelona’s current plans are executed, Coutinho will be sold this summer, never reaching the 100 appearance mark for the Catalans.

Barcelona have reportedly had enough of his underperformance this season and would move him on, even if it is for a loss. It is clearly not going to be just their loss.
