Center Forward Taiwo Awoniyi who is 21 years old has officially been a Liverpool player since August 2015. That is four and a half years of a professional footballer’s life.
Liverpool have not renewed his contract, which expires on 30 June 2016. Awoniyi has 7 caps for Nigeria U-23. At his age it is perhaps right to look for pastures new. This situation has been extrapolated due to his good form at his loan club(read some Belgian sounding club) in Belgium.
The reason he never made an appearance for Liverpool may not solely be his lack of development. In a recent interview given to BBC Sport, he states how unfairly he has been treated and that he has not been granted a work permit to play in England.
“It saddens my heart that it’s been difficult to get a work permit for the past four years,” he told BBC Sport.
“At the end of the season we have to go back to Liverpool to discuss.
“Everyone knows the importance of the work permit and how it works, and that you’d need to play for your national team.
“If you don’t get a chance with your national team then it becomes difficult to get it.
“Personally, I chose Liverpool because I would love to play in the English Premier League for Liverpool.
“If God says it will happen then it will, but if not then I can only go on with my life and career.”
