Liverpool will lose millions of revenue because of beating Barcelona

Barcelona exited this season’s Champions League much the same way they did last season. This time the team beating them was an English one. As it just happens to be, the Reds were also losing but not on the pitch.

The transfers of modern day footballers have various clauses in the agreements. For example, United had included several performance related in clauses in the transfers of players like Martial which never came to fruition. Liverpool are also at the wrong end of such a clause and they can only blame themselves.

But Klopp’s men need not feel sorry for doing so. Liverpool had a clause in Phillipe Coutinho’s agreement that would fetch them £5 million if Barcelona had won this season’s UEFA Champions League. Thanks to Liverpool’s 4-0 win at Anfield, Coutinho will not be anywhere near the Champions League trophy.

It will instead be two English clubs in Madrid vying for the trophy. Liverpool will not be shedding any tears for this loss as the final appearances will certainly fetch them more itself.

The prize-purse for the runners up of the Champions League is £13 million and the winners will collect a healthy sum of £16 million for the final itself. That is not accounting for the fixtures already played. So Liverpool are more in Black than Red this season.

As for Coutinho, we are happy to see him play for Barcelona and not win anything. YNWA!
