It is an all English final of the Champions League in more than a decade. Liverpool will play Tottenham, ironically, in Madrid on June 1 for the crown of all Europe. In a couple of days we will have confirmation about the destiny of this season’s Premier League.
At such a moment Liverpool have received a crucial boost, or two in fact. Andy Robertson and Firmino are expected back to fitness. Robertson left at half time of the victory over Barcelona while Firmino did not play in the second-leg along with Salah. They’ll be fit enough for the Champions League final.
The news comes courtesy of The Telegraph. Firmino’s fitness has not been the best in a couple of months but the report says he will be available for selection.
Robertson’s injury can be considered an extension of the ongoing battle he had with Luis Suarez. While Firmino also played the first leg before getting injured.
So unlike the semi-final where Liverpool won despite the absence of key players like Mo Salah, Naby Keita and Firmino, they will have an almost full strength squad. The only notable absence will now be Naby Keita.
Tottenham overcame a valiant Ajax side who collapsed in the second half. Lucas Moura’s hat-trick got the Lilywhites in the finals. Reinforced with these returning players, Liverpool will have every confidence in victory when they take to the pitch in Madrid.
