Kevin De Bruyne was injured in Tottenham’s match with Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s men coped with that injury well against Manchester United but had to make another sacrifice to the injury Gods in pursuit of this season’s league title.
The latest blow to City’s title aspirations comes in the form of the all important Fernandinho, who hit the deck after a coming together with Paul Pogba.
The Brazilian has been a solid defensive midfielder around whom City make most of their play. His solidity and assurance to the back four, allows City to thrive. Going up against Burnley, who are a physical team without Fernandinho is a risky proposition.
“When I blocked the shot from Paul [Pogba] I felt my knee. It twisted a little bit. I could continue playing but I came off. That’s what it is.”
This injury therefore may be a silver lining for some. But don’t expect much.
