Man United are shocked after recent transfer reports linking the likes of Stoke City defender Nathan Collins and Swansea winger Daniel James.

The two young British stars have been recommended to Solskjaer by his ex-United pals Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs respectively.

Although Premier League pundit Danny Mills believes that a United move won’t suit the youngsters as they would be buried under expectations right from the start.

“Man United already have McTominay, a similar type of player and age (22) to Longstaff. If you are a young player like Longstaff, you need to be sure you are joining a club where you can develop.” He told Football Insider.

“Does Solskjaer have a record of developing players? No. Does Rafa Benitez, assuming he stays at Newcastle? Yes.

“Longstaff should think very carefully before leaving Newcastle, where he is likely to play regularly when he is fit again. He’ll regret it if he moves to Manchester United, where he might not play as much.

“Man United have big problems. They need some serious surgery, and I’m not sure if it’s the right move for any young player.”

Adding impetus to James’ case, Mills further said:

“I’m not sure it’s the right move for James, going to Man United with all the turmoil they’re in.” He said

“Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez are all still there, so he would be competing for a starting place with them.

“There is disharmony and discord as well. For a younger player like James, he needs to go and learn at a different club.

“He’s a frightening talent and has made real progress in recent months, but there would be better clubs for him to go than being at a big club like United, where he would be left out and not improve.”

Surprisingly, United fans have agreed to the statements made by the ex-Manchester City star, and even they feel that signing Collins and James would be below par to the club’s requirements.
