Manchester United have had a rough last few weeks. The Champions League exit, courtesy of Barcelona, was bad but the 4-0 loss to Everton was simply unacceptable.
Now, the Red Devils are in a precarious position. We don’t have the Champions League or the Europa League to fall onto. The only thing that will bring the UCL Football to the Old Trafford next season is the top 4 finish.
With Manchester City set to visit us at the Old Trafford tonight, we don’t have many options. Only a win and 3 points will do it for us. So, who’s gonna start this big game?
David De Gea is the obvious choice in front of the goal with Smalling and Lindelof our Centre Back options. Now that Luke Shaw is back from his suspension, he will slot in the Left Back and Diogo Dalot SHOULD start ahead of Ashley Young at the Right Back. (We don’t need to remind how much a miss match Ashley Young vs Raheem Sterling could be!)
In the middle, a Central Midfield 3 of McTominay, Matic and Pogba look like the best choice with doubts over the availability of Ander Herrera, thanks to his contract situation mess.
McTominay has been class for us while Pogba starts anyway. The inclusion of Matic over Fred is a controversial one with the Serbian looking a bit out of his depth against Everton. However, we will need the physical presence of Matic against the likes of their creative players like KDB and David Silva.
The front three of Lingard, Sanchez and Rashford looks good if we are to play a counter-attacking game. Anthony Martial has been off-colour of late and although Marcus Rashford hasn’t exactly been in the best of form, the Englishman feels like a better choice ahead of Lukaku up front.
Starting eleven: De Gea; Dalot, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw; McTominay, Matic, Pogba; Lingard; Sanchez, Rashford
What would your lineup be?
