ESPN Pundit Alejandro Moreno as warned Man United that handing Paul Pogba captaincy of the club would be a big mistake.

The World Cup winner has been linked with a move to Real Madrid claiming it was his dream to play there.

In a bid to stop that from happening, Solskjaer reportedly is ready to offer the club’s captaincy to Pogba as Antonio Valencia departs in the summer.

But Moreno seems to think that it will a grave error on the part of the Norwegian,

“What other evidence do we have that Paul Pogba should and can be the leader of Manchester United?” he said on ESPN FC.

“When everything, and I mean everything, that we hear coming out of Manchester United is the fact that Paul Pogba has been inconsistent, he has a group of people around him that point him in different directions other than the focus of the team, that he can at times himself be a priority over the team. Those things we have seen and then they get displayed out on the field.

“You give somebody a captaincy, that changes who they are and the core of who they are personally and individually.

“It is a major mistake because those sort of decisions are the ones that get you fired.”

Jose Mourinho had stripped Pogba of the club’s vice-captaincy as the tensions rose high amongst the pair in that time.

Mourinho reportedly told Pogba that he’d never Captain the team again and BT Sport commentator Ian Darke believes that it will be a big call if Solskjaer decides to hand Pogba the armband again.

“I think it is a big call because I think if you look back over the last season, Paul Pogba was hit and miss – to put it kindly,” Darke said.

“He had the Cold War going on with Jose Mourinho, who wasn’t getting the best out of him at all, then he had that mid-season surge.

“Somehow he got into the PFA Team of the Year, heaven alone knows how that came to be but it did, and then at the end of the season he was tactically not in the right position quite often, tactical discipline would be a question mark, and generally he seemed to be quite high-maintenance around the place.

“So are they really gonna try and make him now the leader of that dressing room going forward? Good luck with that!”
