Ander Herrera joined PSG on a free transfer because Manchester United ‘disrespected’ him according to the reliable Journalist Duncan Castles.
Ander Herrera was in the final year of his contract at the Old Trafford last season but decided not to extend his stay with the Manchester Club, instead the Spaniard decided to walk out on a free transfer.
It was widely reported that the 29-year-old was asking for a massive pay-rise owing to the humongous salary of Alexis Sanchez while Ed Woodward was unwilling to sanction that deal.
But if Duncan Castles is to be believed, Woodward actually asked him to take a pay-cut in order to extend his stay at the Old Trafford which Herrera found ‘disrespectful’.
As per Duncan Castles:
“I think a key individual here is Ander Herrera, who has now left under freedom of contract. He was in a similar situation to De Gea in that he was asking for a new deal,” he told The Transfer Window podcast.
“I can tell you from more than one source, my information is that Herrera was actually proposed a pay cut by Manchester United to stay at the club – contrary to what you’ll have seen elsewhere, that he was demanding a massive increase to stay at the club.
“What actually happened, I’m reliably told, is they offered him a pay cut. He felt they disrespected him and then entered into negotiations with other clubs, including Paris St-Germain, he agreed a contract with Paris St-Germain and left.
“It has been noted amongst Manchester United’s playing group that players like Chris Smalling or Phil Jones, English players, have been given pay rises and substantial long-term deals to stay at the club.”
Ander Herrera was one of our few players who actually played like he cared for the Club.
The Spaniard may not be the most talented player in the world, but he worked hard and got the job done, something most of our players are incapable or unwilling to do.
Manchester United are looking for a summer clear-out but the 29-year-old should never have been a part of that.
This is just another transfer in the series of ridiculous transfers that Ed Woodward has sanctioned in the last few years.
Needless to say, a Technical Director is a must if Manchester United want to break into the top 4 and challenge for the big gold!
