Anthony Martial is back in Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s derby against fierce rivals Manchester City after missing the midweek win over Tottenham.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the French striker would be ‘out for a little while’ after suffering a knock in last weekend’s draw with Aston Villa, but he has made a quicker return than initially expected.
Martial, along with the rest of the players who are available to face City, arrived at The Lowry Hotel on Friday night ahead of the massive clash.
The United squad will be virtually unchanged from the team that beat Spurs 2-1 on Wednesday at Old Trafford, with all players involved that night reporting for duty.
Long-term absentees like Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly remain sidelined for the trip to the Etihad, but Solskjaer could name an unchanged XI if he so wishes against City.
Teenager Mason Greenwood started against Tottenham, and very nearly got on the score sheet, and could retain his place with Solskjaer wary of rushing Martial back too quickly.
‘He’s out on the grass training. I said in 2019 so hopefully we’ll see him before the New Year definitely.’
City did the double against United last season, winning both home and away in the Premier League, and the Red Devils – who have an impressive record against the big sides – make the short trip to the Etihad 11 points adrift of their neighbours.
