Manchester United are preparing to make a bid for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.
Manchester United have been linked to Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff as the two priority signings for the midfield position, while Youri Tielemans has been identified as a Plan B, in case we fail to convince either of those two to come to Old Trafford.
While the Bruno Fernandes deal is looking more and more likely each passing day, things had gone a bit quiet on the Sean Longstaff front.
But, as per Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Man United’s bid for Longstaff is now imminent:
“We heard late this afternoon about Sean Longstaff, the Newcastle midfielder,” he said yesterday.
“He’s a player that we’ve told you before that United are interested in signing.
“He made a real impact when he got into the side December, boxing day time.
“We were told earlier this afternoon that Manchester United were preparing to make a bid for Sean Longstaff.
“The people who told us didn’t want us to make a big deal out of it, they didn’t want it to be breaking news.
“But I did ask them, could we report that Manchester United are preparing to make a bid.
“They have just come back to me and said, lets not make a big thing out of it but that is the case.
“But somebody who should know, are telling us that United are preparing to make a bid for Sean Longstaff.”
Sean Longstaff had a very good half a season at Newcastle United. But, the jury is still out on whether he can continue that kind of form for the big boys.
A large number of Manchester United fans seem to be against the idea of his signature owing to his lack of experience at the top level, but as per the new transfer policy, he’s young, British, talented and willing to work for the team which is what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is apparently looking for in his player.
