Manchester United are reportedly set to sign Stoke City Defender Nathan Collins this summer after Darren Fletcher recommended him to us.
Darren Fletcher, who left Stoke City at the end of the season, is expected to call time on his Footballing career after he was offered the Technical Director role at Manchester United by Ed Woodward a few weeks ago.
It’s been reported that Darren Fletcher was mighty impressed with 18-year-old Irishman during his time at Stoke City.
Collins made 3 Championship appearances for Stoke City during the end of the campaign. The 6 ft 4 inch Defender is regarded as one of the most promising up and coming star at the Bet 365 Stadium and Fletcher is keen to sign him up for Man United.
Now, even if we manage to sign Collins on a permanent deal, there’s no way he will make our squad right now.
There’s every possibility that the Irishman will be sent out on loan, preferably to Stoke City, for regular minutes at a high level before he’s ready to challenge for the first team minutes in the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already hinted that he’s looking to sign young and talented players instead of big name superstars in the upcoming summer transfer window:
‘You have to have that value system and a certain kind of attitude about you to make a Man United player.
‘We want to see defenders who defend like they’re doing it for their lives – that’s the most important thing.
‘You have to have that work ethic and we’re scouting the market, trying to find the right ones.’
Nathan Collins ticks all the boxes that Solskjaer wants in a player. And if a legend like Darren Fletcher is recommending him to a club like Manchester United, the lad must be something special, right?
