Manchester United have opened talks with Barcelona over the transfer of the Goalkeeper Jasper Cillesen, according to the reports.
David De Gea is still refusing to sign a contract extension at the Old Trafford after the Spaniard’s demands were refused by Ed Woodward and co.
The Manchester United goalkeeper has already entered into the last year of his contract and he could be set to leave on a free transfer next season with PSG looming in the background.
With De Gea ‘possibly’ leaving, Manchester United are already looking for a replacement who can fill the shoes of our outgoing Spaniard.
There were talks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having some interest in Andre Onana from Ajax, but if the latest reports are to believed, we have opened talks with Barcelona over Jasper Cillesen transfer.
The 30-year-old has made just eleven appearances for Barcelona in the 2018/19 season after being pushed behind the pecking order by Barcelona’s No.1, Marc Andre Ter-Stegen.
Cillesen, meanwhile, is in search of the first-team football and he believes that Manchester United can provide him just that in the absence of De Gea.
Is it a good move?
A no. 2 at Barcelona, Japser Cillesen isn’t a household name but the Dutch is still a very good goalkeeper who is available for just £22million.
As long as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brings back Dean Henderson next season as an understudy and a possible competition for Cillesen, it looks like a safe move by the Manchester United board, more than anything else.
However, this would still be an underwhelming signing especially when you look at our rivals who boast the likes of Alisson, Ederson and Kepa Arrizabalaga in their lineup.
Do you think we should go in for Jasper Cillesen as a possible David De Gea replacement?
