Manchester United could sign both Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, but it all depends on Paul Pogba, according to the journalist Duncan Castles.
The Red Devils are looking for an exchange deal with Juventus which could see Romelu Lukaku move in the other direction and Paulo Dybala joining the Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes has been a long term target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Despite the reports that a £63m deal has been agreed between the United and Sporting, nothing official has come out yet, and Duncan Castles has provided an update on the deal.
As per the Italian journalist, Dybala’s deal for United is independent of Paul Pogba, but signing Bruno Fernandes depends on the Frenchman’s future at the Old Trafford:
“I don’t think [signing Dybala] will make any significant difference to Bruno Fernandes.
“I think that if, and this is a very, very big if, Manchester United decide to do something with Bruno Fernandes, it will be driven by Paul Pogba’s exit from the club.
“I think he is one of the options, one of many options, they’ve been looking at as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba.”
While there were reports that a deal for Fernandes has been struck, as per Duncan Castles, United still haven’t made any significant bid for the Portuguese International, yet:
“There has been a huge amount of reporting on this, on Bruno Fernandes, through the summer,” he continued.
“As of [Tuesday], Sporting had not received any offers from the Premier League or Serie A for Bruno Fernandes, according to Sporting.
“As of recently, I think last weekend, Sporting, upon being asked about Manchester United’s interest in Bruno Fernandes, told a friend of mine ‘I don’t know why the press keep talking about Manchester United, we haven’t had any contact at all with the club’.
“It does seem that United’s interest is no more than one of being an option, rather than anything substantial.”
The days are running out. It’s August already, and if Manchester United are looking to secure any new signings, it better be done quickly.
